Wild Mushroom Walk: Learn to Identify Mushrooms

Join us for a relaxed and educational wild mushroom walk and discover the fascinating world of fungi! During this two-hour walk from 9:00 to 11:00, we’ll head into the forest together in search of fascinating mushrooms. You’ll learn how to identify different species, discover how mushrooms live, and gain a deeper understanding of their important role within the forest ecosystem.

This is not a dry classroom lesson, but a fun and interactive morning in nature. Along the way, we’ll take a closer look at different mushrooms, share interesting facts and stories, and of course leave plenty of room for questions. And to see how much you’ve learned, we’ll finish with a fun mushroom quiz!

Become part of the mycorrhizal network

Mushrooms are so much more than the fruiting bodies you see above the ground. Beneath the soil, inside trees and throughout dead wood lies a vast hidden world of fungal threads, known as mycelium. Fungi are essential to healthy ecosystems and play an important role in breaking down organic matter and recycling nutrients.

During the walk, you’ll discover just how fascinating this hidden world is. Why does a particular mushroom grow under a certain tree? Why do some species grow on dead wood while others emerge from the soil? And what can a mushroom tell us about the place where it grows?

Once you learn to look at the forest differently, an ordinary walk through the woods suddenly becomes an entirely new experience.

Learn to identify mushrooms

One of the main parts of the walk is learning how to identify different mushrooms. We’ll look at features such as the shape and colour of the cap, the underside, the stem, the habitat and other characteristics that can help with identification.

You won’t just learn the names of different mushrooms. More importantly, you’ll learn how to observe a species carefully for yourself. Which characteristics are important? What should you look out for? And how can you tell similar species apart?

We’ll also discuss the differences between edible, inedible and poisonous mushrooms. Safe identification is always the priority. Some mushrooms can look remarkably similar, which is why careful identification is so important.

A fun mushroom quiz

Of course, there’s also room for a little friendly competition. During the walk, you’ll take part in a fun mushroom quiz!

Test your knowledge, identify different species and discover how much you’ve learned about mushrooms, fungi and the forest. The quiz makes the walk interactive and gives you a chance to put your new knowledge into practice straight away.

Don’t worry – you don’t need to be a mushroom expert beforehand. The most important thing is to be curious, learn something new and have fun.

No previous knowledge is required to join this mushroom walk. It’s suitable for anyone who is curious about mushrooms and wants to learn more about nature.

Whether you’re looking at mushrooms consciously for the first time or you already regularly head into the forest with a mushroom guide, there is always something new to discover.

A relaxed morning in the forest

We’ll take a relaxed walk through nature, taking the time to look at interesting mushrooms and answer questions along the way. During the walk, we’ll enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea, with plenty of time to share knowledge, observations and experiences.

The goal? After two hours, you’ll look at the forest differently and will probably notice many more mushrooms than you did before the walk.
